ALIVE CITY SINCE ANCIENT TIMES: GIRESUN

Giresun city is located on a peninsula heading towards the sea. The name of the ancient city Kerasus established in the west, 2 km to the present city center, in the place of the current Citlakkale neighborhood is thought to be originated from the word “Kerasea” refering to the cherry tree which was planted then in large numbers throughout the city. However it is also assumed that the name comes from the word “Keras” which means “horn” as the two bays located in eastern and western sides of Giresun Castle resemble horns.
